Upper West Side therapist for long-term therapy
“I’ve done short-term therapy and want something deeper.” “My marriage is fine, and I want more than fine for myself.” “My kid is in college and I don’t know who I am anymore.”
Our Upper West Side office is at 180 West 80th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus in Lincoln Square, about two blocks from the American Museum of Natural History and near Central Park West and Riverside Park. This is our depth-oriented office, where the longest courses of therapy run. It is at capacity for new clients, so new care starts at Midtown or online, with the same clinical depth either way.
In-network with Cigna and Aetna · superbill on request for out-of-network plansWhat does therapy in the Upper West Side look like at Therapy24x7?
Therapy24x7 sees adults in the Upper West Side and across all of New York State via secure online video, weekly, with the same clinician each week. Sessions take place at the practice’s Midtown Manhattan office (141 East 35th Street) or online statewide, no rotating therapists and no session quotas. The primary orientation is psychodynamic and relational, with evidence-based methods woven in when useful. The practice is in-network with Cigna and Aetna; for other carriers, we provide out-of-network superbills for possible reimbursement.
The patients who want the long view
Families with two kids and a place upstate. Long-married people who haven’t had a real fight in years and wonder if that is good. Empty-nesters whose youngest just left for college. The Columbia and Barnard faculty crowd, and Lincoln Center performers carrying performance anxiety and the pressure of a short performing career. We often hear: “I’ve done short-term therapy and want something deeper.” “My kid is in college and I don’t know who I am anymore.”
Neighborhoods we serve: patients come from 10024 (Upper West Side), 10025 (Manhattan Valley / UWS), 10023 (Lincoln Square), and 10069 (Riverside Boulevard).

Before you book
The Upper West Side office is at capacity: what are my options as a new client?
In person at our Midtown office at 141 East 35th, about 20 minutes by the 1 plus a transfer or a crosstown bus. Secure online sessions are available anywhere in New York State. Our care team usually matches you within the next business day.
I want a therapist I can see for years, not months: is that what you do?
Yes. The Upper West Side is the office where this is most common. We are psychodynamic, which means we go deep rather than just managing symptoms. Many of our UWS patients have been with their therapist five years and counting. We offer shorter-term work too, but the long view is what fits this clinical team best.
My teen and I are not in a good place: can therapy help me, even if she will not go?
Yes. Several of our clinicians work with parents of teens and college-age children on the work that is actually yours to do: how you react, the family patterns, and the relationship you want to build. We do not do family therapy with the teen; we do individual work that strengthens you as the parent.
I am in my 50s or 60s: am I too late?
No. About 40 percent of our UWS patients are over 50: empty-nesters, people considering retirement, those facing health changes or caring for aging parents. The depth-oriented frame holds patients across decades, not eight sessions.
Do you work with Lincoln Center performers and performance anxiety?
Yes, with direct experience, not approximated from general training. Musicians and dancers carry performance anxiety, injury, and the pressure of a short performing career that the outside world reads as glamour. We address it at the level of what the performance has come to mean, not just breathing exercises.
What insurance is in-network, and how does out-of-network work for Medicare patients?
Aetna and Cigna are in-network, both HMO and PPO. Columbia faculty plans that include Aetna or Cigna are accepted. Medicare is out-of-network; some patients submit superbills to Medigap or supplemental plans, which depends on the plan. We do not bill Medicare directly.
Is there a matrescence or perfectionism therapist on the Upper West Side who takes Aetna or Cigna?
Yes. Our Upper West Side office is in-network with Aetna and Cigna, and clinicians on our team focus on matrescence, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome. You pay your plan copay or deductible, and the free matching call finds your fit.
I am a graduate student near Columbia with academic stress or burnout. Can you help?
Yes. We work with graduate students, academics, and high-achievers carrying academic stress, burnout, and imposter feelings. Sessions are at our Midtown office or online across New York State. In-network with Aetna and Cigna.
Do you work with imposter syndrome and career stress?
Yes. Imposter syndrome, career stress, and high-functioning anxiety are core to our work, at our Midtown office or online statewide. In-network with Aetna and Cigna, so you pay your plan copay or deductible.
Wherever this lands, the first step is the same.
The Upper West Side office is full, but starting is not.
The 15-minute matching call places you with a clinician for the long view, at Midtown or online, usually within the next business day. We go over the exact questions to ask your Aetna or Cigna plan on the same call: no obligation, no card.
